Crooked officials,Abercrombie And Fitch Mens For UK, welfare fraud cost Australia

SYDNEY (AFP) – Australia is losing almost Aus$600 million a year to social security fraud and crooked public servants, a report showed Monday as the government announced new measures to tackle the menace.

More than 800,Cheap Abercrombie And Fitch outlet uk,000 incidents of fraud were recorded in 2008-09, according to the Australian Institute of Criminology's "Fraud against the Commonwealth".

Young people ripping off the dole and single mothers on parent payments were the biggest and costliest groups of fraudsters, with 700,000 cases reported in the 2008-09 audit costing Aus$489 million ($508 million).

The report also pointed to more than 15,000 cases of welfare fraud involving international students and other foreigners illegally claiming visas and citizenship entitlements.

Investigations also found hundreds of public servants misusing credit cards, stealing equipment and passing on confidential information.

Just $139 million — or 23 percent — of the stolen money was recovered.

Justice Minister Brendan O'Connor said the government was determined to crack down on the theft.

"Fraud is a really low act. There are vulnerable people who genuinely need our help, and fraudsters play on our nation?s generosity for their own criminal purposes," he said in a statement.

"Fraud is completely unacceptable and that?s why we?re doing all we can to stop it.

"We're determined to fight fraud against the Commonwealth by minimising chances for it to occur, and rapidly detecting, investigating and prosecuting fraudsters."

O'Connor said the government had increased the number of fraud investigators by one third, with 827 more workers now employed,Abercrombie And Fitch Outlet online, while tighter prevention guidelines had also been introduced.

"The threat of fraud is becoming more complex as we strive to deliver government services online and increasingly rely on digital records to deliver more personalised services," he added.

"Technology is making life easier for tens of thousands of Australians and increases the efficiency of government programs. However, it can also create opportunities for cyber criminals, at home and abroad."

Intense attacks on media in Middle East unrest_4880

The latest go-around between the two media giants has to do with the Dodgers. News Corp.’s Fox is in hot water with Major League Baseball for lending struggling Dodgers owner Frank McCourt money to meet the team’s payroll. On Wednesday, Major League Baseball said it was taking control of the franchise away from McCourt.

In some countries and at some points in history, what news media and the public has considered “newsworthy” has met different definitions. For example, mid-twentieth-century news reporting in the United States focused on political and local issues with important socio-economic impacts, such as the landing of a living person on the moon or the cold war. More recently, the focus similarly remains on political and local issues; however, the news media now comes under criticism for over-emphasis on “non-news” and “gossip” such as celebrities’ personal social issues,Jordan Heels, local issues of little merit, as well as biased sensationalism of political topics such as terrorism and the economy. Thus newsworthiness does not only depend on the topic, but also the presentation of the topic and the selection of information from that topic

Intense attacks on media in Middle East unrest

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Journalists have been suppressed in popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa in more than 500 attacks, some of them deadly, according to a media rights watchdog.

Mohamed Abdel Dayem, program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists in the Middle East and North Africa, said the number of attacks on the media in the region since the start of the year was "unprecedented."

"This hasn't happened before, not with this intensity and not with this frequency," he said.

British photojournalist Tim Hetherington, co-director of the Oscar-nominated war documentary "Restrepo", was killed in the besieged Libyan town of Misrata on Wednesday and other photographers injured.

Dayem said 14 journalists had been killed worldwide this year, with 10 of those deaths in the Middle East and North Africa. Hundreds of other assaults on media in the region included detentions, destruction of equipment and death threats.

While the committee said press freedom had improved since protesters ousted the presidents of Egypt and Tunisia, it described the situation as graduating from "horrendous to bad."

Access to social networking tools like Twitter and Facebook will help thwart tight censorship in the region, experts say, but it is uncertain whether unrest in Bahrain, Syria, Yemen, Libya and Saudi Arabia will lead to greater democracy.

"It is not possible to stuff a sock in that many mouths," said Dayem. "There used to be a time when the number of mouths was limited and (governments) could shut all of them up all the time. That model is not longer viable."

The Committee to Protect Journalists called on authorities in Yemen to explain why they have held prominent journalist Ali Salah Ahmed since Tuesday without revealing his location or charging him with a crime.

CENSORSHIP LESS EFFECTIVE

Joe Stork, deputy director of Human Rights Watch's North Africa division, said the recent uprisings had led to a "net gain" for freedom of the media in the region.

"It's possible to disseminate information from places like Bahrain or Syria in a way that wasn't possible 10 years ago. It's just night and day comparison,Vibram Five Fingers Shoes," Stork said.

"On balance definitely there's a freer exchange of information but not because governments are allowing it — because they haven't figured out how to control it."

Curbs on the media will be much harder to maintain, partly because of more access to cell phones and the Internet, said Elliott Abrams, a senior fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

"It's also because the 'Arab Revolts' have de-legitimized censorship even more, just as they have de-legitimized stealing elections and stealing public funds," Abrams said.

"Many governments will continue to try to intimidate journalists physically or through phony prosecutions … but it will be less and less effective."

But, Malcolm Smart, Amnesty International's director for the Middle East and North Africa, said that while some protesters were demanding more freedom for journalists,Abercrombie and fitch mens, it was too early to tell what sort of progress might be made.

"We have seen the emergence of the blogger, the citizen journalist … breaking through," he said.

Stork said while Egypt appeared to be moving in a positive direction, media freedom had been dealt a blow when the country's ruling military council demanded last month that coverage by Egyptian newspapers had to be approved by the military's Morale Affairs Directorate and intelligence.

"The military obviously doesn't like criticism or critical discussion and they have instructed the media not to engage in it and certainly the major outlets have complied," he said.

Dayem warned that if there was no change in government in some countries it could result in harsher media treatment, referring an unsuccessful popular uprising in Iran in 2009.

"That certainly hasn't resulted in a freer media," he said. "In fact, it's resulted in a harsher climate for the media in Iran and it has resulted almost directly in Iran being the world's worst jailer of journalists in 2010."

'View of Love' a muted tale of romantic intrigue

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – The blandly titled "A View of Love" (Un Balcon sur la mer) unravels a twisted tale of intrigue and deception involving French lovers haunted by a shared childhood in Algeria.

Somber almost to the point of being morose, Nicole Garcia's latest film sustains interest by virtue of its plot complications and assured professional sheen but never truly sweeps one into its mysteries or sense of loss. The pervasive ennui suggests scant international opportunities for this handsomely turned out production.

A happy, married, good-looking real estate agent in the South of France sometime in the 1980s, Marc (Jean Dujardin, OSS 117) finds his life turned upside down by when a certain Mrs. Mondonato (Marie-Josee Croze) comes round to inspect a high-priced property for a client. Provocatively turned out with blond hair and a reserved attitude, she seems oddly familiar and it doesn't take long for the two to establish that she is Cathy, the girl Marc was crazy about as a kid in Algeria before their families fled in 1962.

Naturally, they must consummate their mutual attraction these 20-some years later and Marc uses professional excuses to justify driving Cathy around to further destinations. Despite the exceptional coincidence of their reunion, however, Cathy remains rather cool and unforthcoming, not keen on delving into the past to sort and match recollections of their lost youth. "We all have different memories," she blandly asserts before taking off.

Now able to think of nothing but this woman, Marc incredulously listens when his mother (Claudia Cardinale) insists that Cathy was killed in a bombing shortly after their family left Algeria. And so ensue a series of revelations about Cathy/Mrs. Mondonato, her true intentions and business connections and the angst her actions creates all around.

While the intricacies of this mysterious woman's life sustain moderate interest, Marc's essential immobilization during most of the film's second half creates major narrative problems; the man goes into an uncommunicative sulk, estranged from his wife and child, paralyzed professionally and unable for the longest time to provoke Cathy/Mrs. Mondonato into showing her cards. Instead, the focus shifts to the deteriorating relationship between the woman and her lover/mentor Sergio (Toni Servillo, very good), a confident operator who may be losing his grip as he advances in years.

As the truth about Marc and the woman's past link begins to emerge, childhood flashbacks accelerate to fashion sharply etched glimpses of innocent young life against a backdrop of bloody conflict. But there's not enough at stake in the script by Garcia and her frequent collaborator Jacques Fieschi to make it terribly compelling and both Dujardin and Croze seem constrained by aspects of their roles, he by Marc's retreat inside and she by the requirements of her charade. The normally earthy and radiant Croze is also hampered initially by a blond dye job, unbecoming haircut and too much makeup; glam femme fatale get-up doesn't suit her.

The production's silky smooth look is further enhanced by a wide assortment of eye-catching southern locations.

Killers of Italian activist die in Gaza raid: Hamas

GAZA (Reuters) – Hamas security forces in Gaza stormed a building where killers of a pro-Palestinian Italian activist were hiding on Tuesday and two of the al Qaeda-inspired militants died in the raid, Hamas said.

The Hamas-run government said one of the dead militants, a Jordanian,Abercrombie and Fitch Outlet, shot himself after throwing a grenade that killed the second as the security forces burst into the building in the central Gaza Strip where the fugitives had been hiding.

Another of the main suspects in his killing was captured alive, together with three group members who were in the building at the time but had not been identified as culprits.

"This is a tough lesson to whomever would think of messing with the security of the homeland and the citizens," Ehab Al-Ghsain, a Hamas Interior Ministry spokesman, told a news conference.

Three members of the Hamas security forces were wounded in the battle to capture the suspected killers of Vittorio Arrigoni, members of a jihadist Salafist group which abducted the Italian to press their demand for Hamas to release their jailed leader.

Arrigoni, 36, was kidnapped on Thursday and found strangled on Friday.

Hamas security forces surrounded the four-storey building in the Nuseirat refugee camp early on Tuesday, cordoned off the area and traded gunfire with the militants holed up inside. An attempt to negotiate their surrender failed.

Hisham Al-Seedni, their jailed leader, was brought to the building in an effort to persuade the men not to fight, but his followers ignored him, Ghsain said.

The Hamas security forces also brought the mother of one of the fugitives to persuade them to turn themselves in, Ghsain added, screening footage of the woman pleading with her son outside the building.

At least four explosions and heavy gunfire were heard by witnesses as the Hamas security forces stormed the building.

SALAFISTS

The militants were jihadist Salafists who espouse a more radical form of political Islam than Hamas and appear to be attracting recruits, including some from Hamas's ranks.

Arrigoni's killing posed an unprecedented challenge to Hamas, which has governed Gaza since it seized control of the coastal territory from forces loyal to U.S.-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in 2007.

"Vittorio's killing was meant to show Hamas was not in full control of the security situation and therefore the speed of action against the group was meant to show that they are still in control," said Hani Habib, a political analyst. "Hamas was enthusiastic about catching or killing this group and they did not spare any effort to do so,Vibram Five Fingers Shoes," he said. Hamas forces were already holding two suspects in his killing.

Arrigoni's death caused outrage among ordinary Palestinians in Gaza. He was known for helping local fishermen and farmers.

He had lived in Gaza since arriving in 2008 aboard a humanitarian aid boat that Israel had permitted to dock, despite imposing a blockade on the territory after ending its occupation of Gaza in 2005.

Hundreds of Palestinians took part in a symbolic funeral for Arrigoni on Monday.

The Hamas government, which is deeply hostile to Israel, had denounced the kidnapping and killing as an attempt to harm international solidarity with Gaza.

Arrigoni was the first foreigner to be abducted in Gaza since BBC journalist Alan Johnston, who was held for 114 days by another al Qaeda-inspired group. He was released in 2007.

Salafist groups have accused Hamas, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, of being insufficiently committed to enforcing their vision of Islamic law. They have attacked Internet cafes and other targets and want Christians expelled.

They also condemn Hamas for considering ceasefires with Israel and exploring political accommodation with secular Palestinian rivals.

The term “serial” refers to the intrinsic property of a series – namely, its order. In literature, the term is used as a noun to refer to a format (within a genre) by which a story is told in contiguous (typically chronological) installments in sequential issues of a single periodical publication.

More generally, “serial” is applied in library and information science to materials “in any medium issued under the same title in a succession of discrete parts, usually numbered (or dated) and appearing at regular or irregular intervals with no predetermined conclusion.

Thought Of As The Immune

Increased cortisol also contributes to swelling by increasing levels of interleukin-6 , which causes inflammatory reactions and also decreases the part of the immune system responsible for protection from viral and bacterial infections. More than time, increased levels of cortisol and IL-6 cause a decrease in a really important hormone called DHEA.DHEA, thought of as the immune and antiaging hormone, controls age-related disorders, helps repair and maintain tissues, reduces atherosclerosis, raises insulin sensitivity, controls allergic reactions, and balances the activity of the immune program. One ought to note that DHEA is available over the counter in health-food stores. Nevertheless, it should not be taken as a supplement unless the patient’s own bodily level of DHEA is discovered to be low on correct lab tests.Furthermore, supplementation should be directed by a knowledgeable physician. Damaging emotions and lack of supportive relationships substantially affect immune modulation. A number of studies have shown that dysregulation of the immune system may play a role in many conditions associated with swelling, including cardiovascular illness, osteoporosis, arthritis, type-II diabetes, particular cancers, and aging.
Damaging emotions and prolonged infections have been shown to directly stimulate the proinflammatory cytokines that influence these and many other conditions. According to Robert A. Anderson, who wrote on autoimmune diseases and inflammation in the May 2004 issue with the journal Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, “Abrasive close individual relationships are seen to provoke persistent immune downregulation.

At The End Of The Day

When I hear someone refer to a workout routine for women, what immediately comes to mind is the specific exercises to be done. Stuff that enhances metabolism, builds muscle, that sort of thing. But after pondering for a bit, I realized that the real key to this phrase is “routine”. Because how many of you actually have a set schedule to work out like you have a schedule for everything else in your world That’s probably more of the issue than anything else.Do you really not have the time to exercise, or do you simply NOT make an appointment with yourself to do it. And don’t mistake me for one of those fanatical exercise gurus who lives to exercise and does so 8 hours a day. I’m not and I don’t. The fact of the matter is, I struggle with this just like you. So I’m not getting up on my high horse about it.
I understand where you are coming from, I really do.But the truth remains, at the end of the day, you’d look better, feel better, and have more energy if you consistently did workout routines for women.
